Blog #4 Satire Project Reflection
I find technology to be an important topic for me because of the fact that technology has basically taken over our generation. With technology constantly developing, it has come to a point where it has become apart of our daily lives. Moreover, students primarily do their work on computers/laptops and the same can be said for businesses too. Among these various technologies, phones are one of the more prominently used alongside the internet. But given that's the case, addiction to them, especially among kids and teenagers, has become an issue in society. I believe the prime reason for this problem existing is due to the fact that technology has improved immensely since the late 1900s. For example, most computers are now faster when it comes to surfing the web without much slowdown and phones can do more than just call nowadays. In addition, games can be played and social media has become widely popular around the U.S. with platforms like Instagram and Snapchat.
I believe that our satirical skit was effective in addressing this issue. For example, in our video, we had one person not realize that someone was interviewing her and even that her wallet dropped. This represents the isolation of the mind from the environment when addiction to technology is present, which is the phone in this case. We also had another person believe that Canada was only several minutes away as it stated that on Google Maps. This represents the idea of people believing everything on the internet even though some information could potentially be false. My contribution to this project is filming the video and being part of the live portion of the project. My role, specifically, is introducing the topic of technology addiction and then transitioning into the video.

I like your use of invective when you insulted Steven, the other reporter, and told him that he would be a 40-year old virgin because he was always using his phone, instead of going out and meeting girls in real life. It helped to strengthen your position and it showed that people these day really are obsessed with technology.
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you were clear and understandable throughout the entire news report. It also liked how you remained in character and how your insults towards Steven were extremely humorous.
1) You did a great job using the satirical device invective throughout the presentation. You were insulting and making fun of Steven and people in general on how attached they are to their phones, and technology in general.
ReplyDelete2) I liked your dating. You made it seem realistic, and the whole presentation and live performance was easy to understand and follow as well.
I liked how you demonstrated exaggeration in the video by showing a kid repeatedly running into the wall. This showed how people are so consumed with their phones they forget how to interact with others or function without them.
ReplyDeleteI also like the live part of your presentation where you had two opposing point of views on the impact of technology. One perspective spoke on how technology is that harmful whereas the other reporter used the video to emphasize the negatives.-
